Weslemkoon Lake

Weslemkoon Lake is a secluded and picturesque body of water nestled in the Township of Addington Highlands, Ontario, approximately 110 kilometers north of Belleville. Spanning about 19.3 kilometers in length and 2.5 kilometers in width, with a maximum depth of nearly 55 meters, the lake is renowned for its clear waters, rugged granite shorelines, and numerous islands—many of which are uninhabited and open for recreational use. It is a haven for anglers, offering excellent opportunities to catch both largemouth and smallmouth bass, as well as lake trout. Designated as a natural lake trout lake, it supports native populations of this species, a rarity in Ontario.

Beyond fishing, Weslemkoon Lake is rich in natural and cultural history. A notable feature is its historic lighthouse, which dates back to the 1920s and is linked to visits by figures like Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. The lake also includes a unique suspension bridge connecting two islands, and Squaw Point, a treeless area traditionally believed to have served as a refuge for Algonquin women and children during conflict. Surrounded by dense forests and wetlands, the area supports a wide variety of wildlife, including moose, black bears, lynx, bald eagles, and loons. Its remote charm and ecological richness make Weslemkoon Lake a beloved destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
